I am in the planning stages for a Kingfisher guitar built with woods from the west coast of the U.S.

The starting point for this guitar is two back and sides sets of madrone. The madrone tree has been one of my favorite Pacific Northwest trees since I was a kid growing up here. They tend to grow on the bluffs surrounding Puget Sound. Madrone trees that are big enough and straight enough to yield wood suitable for building an acoustic guitar are hard to come by. I was fortunate to connect with a Northern California builder who had such a tree on his property and processed it into a number of nice back and sides sets which I now have two.

West coast woods I'm considering for the top are Sitka spruce, Redwood, and Red Cedar. The neck will be made from Big Leaf Maple.
